Using natural skincare is not only important for your skin they are essential for your health
Even though you may be aware of the importance of using all natural beauty care products if you’re like most beauties new to green products, the thought of actually “detoxing” your entire skincare regime may seem a bit daunting.
Using natural skincare is not only important for your skin, they are essential for your health.
Most conventional products are brimming with toxic chemicals that can put your health at risk, and in our opinion, no beauty product is worth that.
Shopping for natural beauty products doesn’t have to be hard if you follow these four handy tips.
If you can learn to read the labels on skincare and beauty products, then that’s all the knowledge you’ll really need to make the safest purchase for yourself and your family.
Because no matter what the front of the bottle may say, everything you really need to know about the product is stated in the ingredients list.
Here are a few handy tips for reading labels like a pro. When shopping online, you can see the ingredients list for products on the brand website (if it’s not there - this should raise a red flag) OR search the handy EWG (Environmental Working Group) Skin Deep Database which has over 70,000 products and their ingredients listed.
While on your new natural beauty journey, you’ll quickly learn that preservatives are harmful and should be avoided at all costs, but did you know that not all preservatives are created equal? In fact, many natural products actually contain natural preservatives to help extend the life of your product and prevent dangerous bacteria growth.
If a product contains water it absolutely needs a preservative to prevent bacteria from forming, but more clean companies are adding essential oils and antioxidants to their products for their natural preservative properties.
Our products at Products With Purpose are brimming with skin-loving antioxidants and nutrients that will feed your skin with only the good stuff!
We all love to smell good, but not at the expense of a nasty rash! Of course, not everyone will break out in hives from artificial fragrances, but they can cause allergic reactions in sensitive skin as well as affect your health when absorbed through your skin and into your body.
Certain fragrances have been linked to an increased cancer risk as well as hormonal disruptions, which makes us want to stay well away!
Just because you choose to ditch the fragrance doesn’t mean you can’t smell wonderful. Look for products that rely on all-natural essential oils to scent their products. Not only will you smell as fresh as a daisy, every essential oil is unique and has a positive impact on the mind so you’ll feel as good as you smell!
Where’s the proof when a product states that it is “preservative free” or “free from parabens?”
The unfortunate fact is… there is no proof. You’ll have to take these companies claims at face value and we don’t recommend this.
For example, parabens or any other synthetic ingredients present in the product can be hidden behind “fragrance” on the label and “dermatologically tested” does not mean the product has been endorsed by dermatologists. Your best bet is to really learn how to decode labels so you’re never fooled by claims that may not be true.
These are just a few tips to help you make the right choices as you start to clean up your beauty routine.
